- 1Sit or lie in a comfortable position, relaxing all muscles and bringing your awareness inward.
- 2Place your focus entirely on the lower Dantian, located about two inches below the navel.
- 3Inhale through the nose so slowly and softly that a feather placed at the nostrils would not move, gently expanding the lower abdomen.
- 4Exhale through the nose with the same imperceptible subtlety, allowing the abdomen to naturally retract.
- 5Gradually lengthen the breath cycle until the physical sensation of breathing nearly disappears, resting your awareness in the stillness of the Dantian.
By drastically slowing the respiratory rate and shifting the mechanical focus entirely to the lower abdomen (Dantian), this technique maximizes vagal tone and parasympathetic dominance. It induces a hypometabolic state, reducing oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production, which lowers heart rate, blood pressure, and cortisol levels while enhancing heart rate variability (HRV) and interoceptive awareness.
