Our Core Philosophy

TryBreathing.org is built on the premise of being the open-source Wikipedia of the human nervous system. We believe that your biological data belongs to you. We do not, and will never, sell your personal or biometric data to third-party advertisers or data brokers.

This policy explains exactly what data we collect, why we need it to make the platform work, and how we protect it.

Information We Collect

1. Standard User Accounts

When you create a free account (via Email or Google Auth) to access the Dashboard, we collect:

  • Your email address, basic profile information, and authentication tokens (handled securely by Google Firebase).
  • Self-Reported Biometrics: To provide progress tracking, we store data you actively submit, including your BOLT score (CO₂ tolerance), resonance frequency, perceived stress/energy levels, breathing mechanics, and daily habits.
  • Usage Data: We track your total practice sessions, session durations, and current streaks to power your dashboard milestones and achievements.
  • Saved Protocols: A list of techniques you have saved to "Your Arsenal" for quick access.

2. Clinical Review Board (Clinicians)

If you apply for clinician verification to peer-review our directory, we collect:

  • Professional credentials (e.g., license numbers, organizational affiliations).
  • Public-facing name and optional professional links to display on the "Verified By" badge across the platform.

3. Ethical Sponsors

If you subscribe as an ethical sponsor ($25/month), we collect:

  • Brand details, URLs, and directory placement information.
  • Note: We do not store your credit card information. All payments are processed securely via our third-party payment processor (e.g., Stripe).

How We Use Your Data & Third Parties

We use your data strictly to provide and improve the TryBreathing platform. This involves secure interactions with a few essential third-party services:

  • Google Firebase: Used for secure user authentication and database hosting (Firestore). This is where your dashboard metrics are stored securely.
  • Google Gemini API: When you take an assessment and request "AI Feedback," your non-identifiable biological inputs (stress, BOLT score, habits) are securely transmitted to Google's Gemini API to generate a personalized clinical protocol. We do not transmit your name or email to this AI model.
  • Amazon Associates: We use affiliate links (via clean redirects like /go/product) for recommended clinical tools and literature. If you click these, Amazon uses tracking cookies to attribute the sale to TryBreathing.
  • Buy Me a Coffee: If you choose to donate, your transaction is handled entirely by Buy Me a Coffee and their payment processors. We do not collect or store your financial data.

Cookies & Local Storage

To provide a seamless experience across our platform (trybreathing.org/dashboard), we utilize cookies.

  • Persistent Authentication (tb_auth): When you log in, we place a lightweight cookie on your browser. This tells the application that you are logged in, allowing us to display personalized UI (like your name and profile picture in the navbar).
  • Local Storage: We may temporarily store practice settings (like active orb durations) in your browser's local storage to remember your preferences between sessions.

Data Security & Your Rights

Your database entries in Firebase Firestore are protected by strict security rules. Only your authenticated user ID can read or write to your personal dashboard documents.

Account Deletion: You have the right to request the complete deletion of your account and all associated biometric data. You can perform this action directly from your dashboard settings, or by contacting us. Upon deletion, your data is permanently removed from our active database.
